If you only answered “yes” to 1 or 2 questions, congratulations … Your date or partner doesn’t have many narcissistic traits, which likely means your relationships are on the healthy spectrum. That’s great news. People like you, with relatively healthy relationships, tend to be empathetic towards others, yet have strong boundaries. They tend to have happier, better-balanced lives.
If you answered “yes” to between 3 and 6 questions, your date or partner definitely leans towards narcissistic behavior. Of course, just having a few narcissistic traits doesn’t mean he or she is a narcissist. The problems start when your date or partner puts their feelings and needs above everyone else’s, or starts to treat you like you don’t matter. This type of narcissistic abuse can be very damaging. However, with some regular support you can become more independent, increase your sense of self-worth, and make sure you avoid relationships with narcissistic partners.
If you answered “yes” to 7 or more questions, your date or partner has narcissistic traits that are most likely making your life miserable. But you don’t have to slog through life with partners like these. Thankfully, counseling and therapy can help you discover why you tend to choose dates and partners with narcissistic traits, as well as whether or not you’ve developed some relationship patterns and coping mechanisms that discount your own feelings. But avoiding this type of deeper work and introspection can put you at risk for more relationship dissatisfaction, and even depression, anxiety and addictions.
